Liverpool announces Agreement With Barcelona For Coutinho Switch
Liverpool have announced a deal has been agreed with for Philippe Coutinho to join Barcelona, for a fee understood to be £146m.
It was reported earlier on Saturday evening that discussions between the two clubs had been underway for several weeks.
And an agreement has now been reached between the two clubs and an announcement have equally been made.
A medical is expected to take place on Monday as Coutinho has also been taking off to Barcelona on a private jet.
A Liverpool statement on the club’s website said: “Liverpool FC can confirm Philippe Coutinho will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona, subject to medical and agreement of personal terms.
“The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities to conclude the transfer immediately.”
Coutinho will sign a five-and-a-half-uear contract, with a buyout clause of 400 million Euros (£354.6m) as stated by Barcelona.
A Barcelona statement said: “FC Barcelona and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Philippe Coutinho.
The player will sign a contract for the remainder of the season and five more, and will have a buyout clause of 400 million euros.
“In the next hours we will inform you of the details of the player’s arrival and presentation.”
The deal concludes a long-running transfer saga, with the Brazilian international having hoped he would move to Barcelona last summer following the world-record sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain.
Coutinho earlier withdrew from the Liverpool squad that is headed to Dubai for a few days break after the FA Cup victory over Everton on Friday evening, for which he was officially injured.
Coutinho, who joined Liverpool for £8.5m from Inter Milan in 2013, made 20 appearances in all competitions for the Anfield side this season, scoring 12 goals.
